OK, so maybe I’m exaggerating a just a tad…
Diet Coke Ingredients
But it’s zero calories you say?
Diet Coke for Weight Loss
Zero calories does not mean weight loss. In order to lose weight, our liver essentially turns fat stores into energy and is burned off. When we consume, breathe in, be in, or live in ’toxic’ material, that same one and only liver neutralizes the toxic material and it is removed from the body. Keep in mind [diet] coke is ‘seen’ by your body as a toxic substance. It’s not food, it’s not water, so what the heck is it? An unusable, toxic substance. Our liver is very clever in prioritizing it’s duties. We can’t live with toxic material overloading the body so the liver needs to neutralize it, putting weight loss to the side. And the better news? If toxin removal pathways aren’t functioning properly, which most aren’t, that toxic substance ends up stored in fat cells… so much for counting calories.
Diet Coke for Your Heart
What!? Diet Coke partnered with The Heart Truth. Supposedly designed to raise awareness for women’s heart health programs. Just because they’ve put a big red heart on their can and made you think they care about yours doesn’t mean it’s good for you, it’s called marketing.
Diet Coke for Rusty Nails
Phosphoric acid is the component responsible for the ability to remove reddish-brown iron oxide to black ferric phosphate which can be scrubbed off leaving a fresh metal surface. If phosphoric acid can do that to rust, just imagine what it can do to the delicate balance of pH, tissue, cells, and your other precious inners…
Diet Coke for Your Bones
A study published in the American Journal of Nutrition studied 1672 women and 1148 men were studied between 1996 and 2001. Their findings suggested that women who drank more cola had lower bone density. Although they note more studies should be conducted due to the fact that overall phosphorus intake was not necessarily higher however overall calcium to phosphorus ratios were lower (suggesting bone density loss). Others studies (like Pepsi funded ones) will argue that this is due to milk displacement, meaning if one drinks more soda, they are drinking it over milk, hence lower bone density.
Diet Coke for Your Kidneys
Phosphoric acid binds with calcium and magnesium in the body forming salts, which must then be excreted via the kidneys. It has been suggested that cola consumption has been linked to chronic kidney disease and increased urinary kidney stones. “Carbonated beverages and chronic kidney disease”. 2007 Epidemiology 18 (4): 501–6.
Other Lovely Uses for Cola’s Ingredients
P.S. Be wary of any doctor, dentist, dietitian, or nutritionist that drinks cola, diet or other… you may want to find another ‘expert’.
For the past 6 years 99% of the beverages I have consumed were cola’s. About 16 months ago I made the switch to diet cola and have been drinking 6 to 8 liters each day. On the 31st of October, I woke up with a throbbing sharp pain comming from the region surrounding one of my kidneys. It wasn’t till then that I began to learn the truth about cola. Since then, I have taken my last sip of diet cola and then poured the rest of it down the drain. The past few days I have been drinking cranberry juice and water, hoping that the pain will go away on its own. At this point I’m guessing that it’s just wishful drinking on my part, and that I should seek medical attention soon because of all the damage I may have been doing to myself all these years.
